To Showcase 63 Renowned Hong Kong Professional Photographers’ Diverse Perspectives of Their Home City
(Shanghai, 13 August 2010) “Hong Kong‧City”, a HKSAR program for Expo 2010 Shanghai China, opened on 13 August at Shanghai Times Square. Presented by the Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers (HKIPP), this large scale exhibition showcases 63 large format (2.5m x 1.5m) works of 63 of Hong Kong’s most well known professional photographers, and will be open to the public from 14 to 29 August.
The Hong Kong Institute of Professional Photographers (HKIPP) is made up of renowned and revered creative industry specialists from various disciplines, who are all keen on pursuing the highest professional and artistic standards in the field of photography.
Mr. Carsten Schael, President of HKIPP, reveals that “Hong Kong‧City” comprises the most representative works of HKIPP members, a good number of whom already rank among the world’s best known and most sought after photographers. “We are proud to be able to present, during the Shanghai Expo, 63 fascinating works that represent the highest standard of photography in the region. It is the first time that we stage an exhibition of this kind in Shanghai”.
Whether pleasing or provocative, the exhibits, ranging from classic cityscapes to avant-garde portraiture, from realist documentations to surrealist montages, showcase these creative talents’ diverse and often extraordinary perspectives of modern day Hong Kong.
Mr Patrick Chan, Commissioner, HKSAR Expo Affairs Office,said, “We are proud to present this “Hong Kong ‧City” exhibition in Shanghai during the Shanghai Expo. The exhibition shows many different and interesting facets of Hong Kong and demonstrates that the city has many creative talents.”
The Guests of Honor at the Opening included: Mr Patrick Chan, Commissioner of HKSAR Expo Affairs Office, Mr Carsten Schael, President of HKIPP; Ms Cathy Hau, Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Times Square; renowned artist Maleonn; Mr Tomas Mok, Managing Director of SGM Works - McCann Erickson Guangming Ltd; Mr Robert Lam, Director of RobertLam Color / Photobition Hong Kong Ltd.; Mr Roy Lee, HKIPP Exhibition Director; Mr Raymond Wong, Vice-President of HKIPP; and Mr Jonny Koo, founding member and first president of HKIPP.
Ms Cathy Hau said, “Shanghai Times Square, a well known landmark for fashion and culture in the city, is happy to provide a platform for artists around the world to showcase their creativity and talents. I am sure this exhibition, which is yet another one of the many Expo cultural programs we have presented in our premises, will allow everyone to discover Hong Kong’s charm and vibrancy.”
